Honouring Humble Beginnings
Starting from the first box up gets you in a
process by default. Whether a cis or a trans person, the journey is
uncomfortable. To trans people, what others feel as just uncomfortable, can be rough
and brutal. However, humble beginnings require you to have patience (The
Mastermind Within,2019) and visualize your goals. Isis King, an American trans
model's story, is one example of the pros of humble beginnings. They modeled
her to become who she is today. King worked as a receptionist in a hair salon
and as an assistant programmer in a non-profit organization. She advocates giving
back to the community. King natured her talent at different 'small' industries,
and it helped her ready for America's Next Top Model competition. She was the
first trans to contend and the most visual. She has been hosted by Tyra Banks,
who became a stepping stone to her transition story. Unfortunately, she faced a
fight against her campaign by those who advocate for her rights. Though her
opportunity has been termed as unprecedented, she has weathered the storms that
come with being a trans and being a trans model due to the thick skin she got
from the process.
